Neurotechnologies Department

of the UNN Institute of Biology and Biomedicine

General Information

Neurotechnology Department (formerly the Department of Neurobiology and Neurodynamics) was established in 2005 under the leadership of the doctor of physical and mathematical sciences Kazantsev Victor Borisovich as a unit of Biological Faculty Lobachevsky State University of Nizhni Novgorod (UNN). It aimed to stimulate educational and research activities in the field of Life Sciences.

It brought together under one roof students and PhD-students from different faculties the UNN such as the Institute of Biology and Biomedicine, faculty of Radiophysics, the Advanced School of General and Applied Physics and others.

The activities of the Department include a wide range of fundamental problems of modern neuroscience, involving the application of advanced experimental methods, such as electrophysiological registration neuronal activity and fluorescent imaging, development and study of models of cellular activity, neuronal networks and functional systems of the brain; the development of applied technology for medical diagnostics and treatment of brain diseases; the creation a new class of information systems using the principles of brain functioning.

In 2006, under the leadership Semyanov Alexey Vasilyevich, UNN was opened so-called "mirror laboratory", it was built by analogy with the laboratory of the Institute of brain RICKEN, Japan and equipped with advanced research equipment. This allowed the Nizhny Novgorod scientists to reach a new level of research and to interact with foreign colleagues on an equal basis. Subsequently, the laboratory became a part of Nizhny Novgorod Neuroscience Centre.
